Real Food on A Budget

The Most Unpoorganic Thing I Do

March 30, 2012 Katrina RyderLiving Poorganically

I have an admission. There is one particular thing I do that is totally, completely, and in every way, NOT POORGANIC. It is expensive. Heart-stopping and take a giant gulp expensive. It is not organic. I cannot find the money in another way, such as couponing. I just have to yank healthy food out of…Continue reading The Most Unpoorganic Thing I Do

Compost the Easy Way

March 20, 2012 Katrina RyderLiving Poorganically

Are you trying square foot gardening, but feeling overwhelmed by all the information about composting?  If you look up composting on the Internet, you will find the typically DELUGE of information. In the midst of that information, there will be a lot of rules. After reading for about thirty minutes, you may start to think…Continue reading Compost the Easy Way

Poorganic Gardening: Square Foot Beds

March 12, 2012 Katrina RyderLiving Poorganically

This is our third year of gardening. Our first year, we miserably failed at a row garden. Last year, we had our first square foot garden and had moderate success. This year we are adding a second square foot garden, using our poorganic principles. It’s not too late for you to start gardening, so if…Continue reading Poorganic Gardening: Square Foot Beds

Poorganic Grocery Budget- One Actual Month

February 19, 2012 Katrina RyderLiving Poorganically

I’ve tried four different times to write a “Poorganic Grocery Budget” for a month.  Many of you have asked what we usually buy, but it is too hard to generalize since every month is different.  I’ve decided that to just show you what food we ACTUALLY bought in the last 30 days, the good, the…Continue reading Poorganic Grocery Budget- One Actual Month

Poorganic Menu Planning

February 11, 2012 Katrina RyderLiving Poorganically

This is the MAIN post that everyone has been begging me for. This is also the MAIN post that I’ve put off writing because I am probably NOT going to say what you want to hear. There is no menu. What I mean is, there is no one menu that is the cheapest menu, that…Continue reading Poorganic Menu Planning

Six months of Eating Poorganically

February 6, 2012 Katrina RyderLiving Poorganically

We’ve been Eating Poorganically for six months now, so I thought maybe I would give you a little update on how our lives have and haven’t changed since we started eating differently.  In the spirit of honesty, I am going to tell both the “pros” and “cons.” (Number 10 is my favorite. :)) 1. Our…Continue reading Six months of Eating Poorganically

If you are a relatively new reader of this blog, you may be interested to know that we only started Eating Poorganically in August 2011.  I changed the name of the blog from “The Low Ryder” to “The Poorganic Life” in October.  Lately, I’ve thought it might be helpful to review a few of the…Continue reading GET SAD PiG Recap

Thrifty Real Food Shopping Tips

January 25, 2012 Katrina RyderLiving Poorganically

I’m VERY excited to tell you that I have my first ever GUEST POST at another blog.  My absolute favorite coupon blogger, Shelly, at My Coupon Teacher, has invited me over to her blog to share some poorganic shopping tips for her Thrifty Thursday feature.  Of course, I probably won’t call them “poorganic” tips over…Continue reading Thrifty Real Food Shopping Tips

Recipe: Poorganic Honey Whole Wheat Sandwich Bread

January 20, 2012 Katrina RyderLiving Poorganically

I’ve had a lot of questions about bread since I posted a conversation about how to judge the “poorganic-ness” of your bread.  It includes information about homemade and store bought breads.  I HAVE been trying to make bread more often, and now that I’ve incorporated it into my week, it isn’t as much of a…Continue reading Recipe: Poorganic Honey Whole Wheat Sandwich Bread

About me

Hi! I'm Katrina. I'm married to an elementary school music teacher and am mom to three busy teenagers. Although I dream of being a writer, I keep busy substitute teaching, directing Shakespeare plays, teaching homeschool classes and working seasonally at a local u-pick farm. These days my blog is mostly a venue for information about my homeschool classes, but the archives contain my old posts about faith, finances, food, and family. I also have archives of The Poorganic Life food blog and You Go Girl! studies. I love Jesus, my family, libraries, audiobooks, Harry Potter, talking about the Enneagram, gardening, Hamilton, and eating crusty bread.

Where’s the one about . . .?
