Eating Poorganically: Starting Thoughts

August 4, 2011 Katrina RyderLiving Poorganically

Against my better judgment and the advice of some of you, I have resolved to carry out a little experiment to see if our family of five can eat organically and not hate it.  I have already begun some research into the matter and have drawn some of my inspiration from a blog written by…Continue reading Eating Poorganically: Starting Thoughts

Save to Give: March Update

March 31, 2011February 17, 2013 Katrina RyderLiving Poorganically

I stayed up WAY too late last night writing a sentimental post for my daughter’s upcoming birthday, so this will be quick. If you don’t know what the Save To Give Challenge is, you can follow the link to read about it.  But basically, we are trying to GIVE away as much money as we…Continue reading Save to Give: March Update

Produce Savings Awe-some!

February 24, 2011February 17, 2013 Katrina RyderLiving Poorganically

As we all know, scoring consistent savings on produce, meat, and dairy products is ever a challenge.  Last year I tried and somewhat failed to grow a productive and efficient garden. As you can probably guess from the picture, our proximity to the woods means that fighting the deer is a challenge. Finding the sun…Continue reading Produce Savings Awe-some!

My Cheap Trick: Buttwipe Conservation Program

February 24, 2011February 17, 2013 Katrina RyderLiving Poorganically

Dear Sensitive Readers, Please don’t e-mail me about the title of this post. I know you don’t like it. Be forewarned that the following post uses the terms poop, poo, crap, rump, and butt in excess. Love, Katrina This edition of My Cheap Trick is geared towards people who regularly change diapers; therefore, if you…Continue reading My Cheap Trick: Buttwipe Conservation Program

January Save to Give Update and Idea

February 4, 2011February 17, 2013 Katrina RyderFull of Fruit

My Budget Resolution Workshop has kept me busy this past month, hence I haven’t blogged much. I did want to give you an update on the Save to Give Challenge for the month of January. (Check out the Save to Give Challenge if you have no clue what I’m talking about.) My monthly budget for…Continue reading January Save to Give Update and Idea

Save to Give Challenge

January 5, 2011February 17, 2013 Katrina RyderFull of Fruit

In the land of resolutions, I did not meet one of my goals for last year. Well, one is too small a number. I should say, there is one particular goal that I did not meet, which I’m going to tell you about. Last year I started using an excel spreadsheet, courtesy of Jenny at…Continue reading Save to Give Challenge

Squeaky Wheel Gets Huggies

December 10, 2010February 17, 2013 Katrina RyderLiving Poorganically

I don’t like to be the squeaky wheel.   Even though the squeaky wheel gets the oil, I always feel that it is not worth someone else’s discomfort or even my own nervousness about approaching the conflict. Every now and then, however,  a couponer, or even a regular “normal” shopper, will have something go awry. These…Continue reading Squeaky Wheel Gets Huggies

The Coupon Skinny

October 20, 2010 Katrina RyderLiving Poorganically

When people learn that I coupon, they are often curious how much money I save. And when they hear how much money I save, they often want to try it.  But when I tell them what I do, they often get a dejected and overwhelmed look on their face because most people do not have…Continue reading The Coupon Skinny

Top Ten Reasons Why I am NOT WEANING my baby

September 28, 2010February 17, 2013 Katrina RyderLiving Poorganically

So as my baby’s one year birthday has come and gone, there are an increasing number of people who have asked me when I am going to wean her.  It seems that for many people the first birthday marks the end of the reasonable time period for nursing, after which something must be slightly weird…Continue reading Top Ten Reasons Why I am NOT WEANING my baby

Friday Rerun: Cheapness Philosophy

September 17, 2010February 17, 2013 Katrina RyderLiving Poorganically

Our super cute house two years ago. Since hopefully I have gained a few readers since I began this blog in May, I am reposting an article that outlines some of the basic lifestyles that under gird our cheapness. I thought I would lay the background for our cheapness just for any who might be…Continue reading Friday Rerun: Cheapness Philosophy

About me

Hi! I'm Katrina. I'm married to an elementary school music teacher and am mom to three busy teenagers. Although I dream of being a writer, I keep busy substitute teaching, directing Shakespeare plays, teaching homeschool classes and working seasonally at a local u-pick farm. These days my blog is mostly a venue for information about my homeschool classes, but the archives contain my old posts about faith, finances, food, and family. I also have archives of The Poorganic Life food blog and You Go Girl! studies. I love Jesus, my family, libraries, audiobooks, Harry Potter, talking about the Enneagram, gardening, Hamilton, and eating crusty bread.

Where’s the one about . . .?
