My Cheap Trick

September 1, 2010February 17, 2013 Katrina RyderLiving Poorganically

My Cheap Trick is a new category where I will be listing cheap tricks and strategies that I’ve learned in my journey towards living more frugally.  I’d love you to also send in your “cheap tricks.” Please send me an e-mail rather than putting it in the comments.  I will post the best cheap tricks…Continue reading My Cheap Trick

Ten Easy Anti-Clutter Tactics

August 30, 2010February 17, 2013 Katrina RyderLiving Poorganically

Do you feel like you are fighting a constant “STUFF-WAR”? No matter how much you want to simplify, do you feel like the clutter of life is crowding around you? Does  the daily task of “picking up” constitute your entire exercise routine? If you answered yes to any of those questions, this list is for…Continue reading Ten Easy Anti-Clutter Tactics

I love ALDI

August 26, 2010February 17, 2013 Katrina RyderLiving Poorganically

Sing to the tune of the Cheers theme.  You have to be a pretty die-hard couponer to understand this song, but this was my experience yesterday stocking up after a summer of depleting the pantry. Getting a deal at the grocery store takes everything you’ve got Taking a break from couponing sure would help a…Continue reading I love ALDI

Oh Deer

August 22, 2010February 17, 2013 Katrina RyderFull of Fruit

I’ll make this quick. If I can. For those burning with curiosity about my garden and its progress, here is some info. After the scalping, I placed the tomatoes on little rolling carts that J’s school was ditching. Every night, I tucked them into the garage so they couldn’t be munched by vicious deer. When…Continue reading Oh Deer

Date Night Expectations

August 15, 2010February 17, 2013 Katrina RyderLiving Poorganically

$131 That’s how much is left. 9 days to go. If you subtract the $30 copay for baby’s check-up, that leaves $101, $11 a day. I could probably stop the e-mail there for accountability purposes, but as you know, I must elaborate. Here’s what we spent this week. $55.99 Harris Teeter Check out my post…Continue reading Date Night Expectations

132 Dollar Vacation

August 2, 2010February 17, 2013 Katrina RyderLiving Poorganically

So we did it. We managed to go on vacation and stay in budget.  Here’s the breakdown and a gallery of pictures from our trip.  Last night I spent a bazillion years typing all this witty narrative to go with the pictures and then it vanished into thin air, so forget it.   As…Continue reading 132 Dollar Vacation

Menu Planning A- HA- HA

July 13, 2010February 17, 2013 Katrina RyderLiving Poorganically

As promised, here is the revised menu showing what we did not (crossed out) and what we actually have eaten.   You can see clearly that the categories went straight out the window as we basically ate whatever we wanted and usually pork on vegetarian night-HA! SUN. MON. TUES. WED. THURSDAY FRI. SAT. SILLY SUPPER PORK/…Continue reading Menu Planning A- HA- HA

July Menu Plan

June 27, 2010February 17, 2013 Katrina RyderLiving Poorganically

I posted a plan last month and realized that I probably should have posted a running “actual” to show the ebb and flow of our menu over time.  I think I will do that for this month, so you can check back to this post any time you are curious to see what we are…Continue reading July Menu Plan

No Saving for a Rainy Day

June 25, 2010February 17, 2013 Katrina RyderFull of Fruit

I am including this lovely picture of the beach to sweeten up the fact that this post may be hugely unpopular.  So look at the photo when you start feeling lots of ire. Okay, so I have mentioned in a few previous posts that J and I don’t really save money. Many of you have…Continue reading No Saving for a Rainy Day

Why Cash?

June 21, 2010February 17, 2013 Katrina RyderLiving Poorganically

One of my problems with the cash system is the cash.  I was told that this system would give me a greater sense of loss and help me keep up with my money.  But I have a fear and likelihood of actually losing it–as in, money falling out of my wallet, pocket, purse, or a…Continue reading Why Cash?

About me

Hi! I'm Katrina. I'm married to an elementary school music teacher and am mom to three busy teenagers. Although I dream of being a writer, I keep busy substitute teaching, directing Shakespeare plays, teaching homeschool classes and working seasonally at a local u-pick farm. These days my blog is mostly a venue for information about my homeschool classes, but the archives contain my old posts about faith, finances, food, and family. I also have archives of The Poorganic Life food blog and You Go Girl! studies. I love Jesus, my family, libraries, audiobooks, Harry Potter, talking about the Enneagram, gardening, Hamilton, and eating crusty bread.

Where’s the one about . . .?
