Making Your Budget Skinny

June 15, 2010 Katrina RyderNutty

If you are an accountant or some budget guru, stop reading now! This is budgeting for English majors–or people like that, which means that it is very simple and non-mathy.  This is a good exercise for you if you have really never gotten a handle on where your money goes.  I’m just sharing what I…Continue reading Making Your Budget Skinny

A Skinny Budget: Get Started!

June 14, 2010 Katrina RyderNutty

Summer is officially here for us since J finished his last workday today.  Hooray! Now we begin the long days of trying to keep five people busy and happy without spending money. Maybe you are like me and really want to get through this summer without putting anything on the credit card?  Are you someone…Continue reading A Skinny Budget: Get Started!

As the Deer Pants

June 14, 2010 Katrina RyderFull of Fruit

After the potting of Big Beef last week, J and I determined that if we kept the pots here in this sunny patch next to the basketball goal and car, the deer would stay away.  I put hair on them and hoped the smell of that and presence of the car would deter them.  Not…Continue reading As the Deer Pants

Week 3 Update: The Pepper Pickle

June 13, 2010 Katrina RyderSweet

So I guess we all knew that the time would come when I would be over budget. I was just hoping that it wouldn’t be Week 3. There was a FIASCO this week from which I have still not recovered . Here’s the story.  Skip to the bottom if you just want the numbers. Saturday…Continue reading Week 3 Update: The Pepper Pickle

Raskols, Ninjas, Elmo, and the Metaphysical Conceit

June 13, 2010March 14, 2015 Katrina RyderLiving Poorganically

(Scene: ALL–I repeat–ALL of my family is asleep and I am on our screened in porch with an ice tea enjoying the 91 degrees and 60 percent humidity. Yes, I love heat. No, I am not delusional from it. They are really and truly ALL asleep . . . shhhhh.) (To those of you who…Continue reading Raskols, Ninjas, Elmo, and the Metaphysical Conceit

The Teacher Gift Results

June 12, 2010 Katrina RyderNutty

J is often accusing me of asking his opinion on something to find that I do the exact opposite.  It seems that this may have been true with the teacher gift.  I seemed to buy everything that I said I wouldn’t buy and nothing that I wanted to buy; nonetheless, I stayed within budget and…Continue reading The Teacher Gift Results

An Excuse and a Brilliant Recipe

June 11, 2010February 17, 2013 Katrina RyderLiving Poorganically

For my loyal following who have noticed the absence of new posts, I can only offer the excuse that book club is tonight and I always wait to read until the last minute, so all day I will be reading. Meanwhile, my children will be tearing the house to shreds and it will be frozen,…Continue reading An Excuse and a Brilliant Recipe

McTeague and What Not to Do: Marriage Series Part I

June 8, 2010 Katrina RyderSweet

One of the main challenge with family cheapness is keeping the marriage together and everybody on the same page. And I would be lying if I didn’t admit that Jeremy and I have definitely had some ups and downs about my cheapness.  With this in mind, I have decided to do a series of posts…Continue reading McTeague and What Not to Do: Marriage Series Part I

Just as expected . . . the unexpected

June 8, 2010 Katrina RyderNutty

So I realized that I forgot to budget for thank- you presents for Addie’s Pre-K teachers. And forgetting to budget for something simply means that I snatch the food right out of my baby’s mouth, right?  Well, not exactly. I CANNOT go over budget this week because the following two weeks may even require extra…Continue reading Just as expected . . . the unexpected

About me

Hi! I'm Katrina. I'm married to an elementary school music teacher and am mom to three busy teenagers. Although I dream of being a writer, I keep busy substitute teaching, directing Shakespeare plays, teaching homeschool classes and working seasonally at a local u-pick farm. These days my blog is mostly a venue for information about my homeschool classes, but the archives contain my old posts about faith, finances, food, and family. I also have archives of The Poorganic Life food blog and You Go Girl! studies. I love Jesus, my family, libraries, audiobooks, Harry Potter, talking about the Enneagram, gardening, Hamilton, and eating crusty bread.

Where’s the one about . . .?
