Authentic Faith and Abundant Life

Finding the Rest-Week 1

January 28, 2014February 11, 2014 Katrina RyderFull of Fruit

Our first study group on Finding the Rest of My Faith began this past Thursday.  If you want to follow along with what we’re discussing or weren’t able to be at the first meeting, these summary posts may help. At the end, I’ll include a few ideas for self study. There were just three of us.  We…Continue reading Finding the Rest-Week 1

Finding the REST of My Faith

January 8, 2014February 18, 2014 Katrina RyderFull of Fruit

Back in the olden days, I only had one child. This child, sweet Addie, was and is, my best sleeper. In fact, both her father and I were pretty darn good sleepers too.  The amount of crazy going on when she was born is mind-numbing to consider now.  We moved 4 times before she was…Continue reading Finding the REST of My Faith

He Makes Me Lie Down

January 5, 2014February 18, 2014 Katrina RyderFull of Fruit

(After the story, there is a question and opportunity for local gals.) When my husband and I applied to become missionaries about 8.5 years ago, we had to take LONG psychological evaluations. I suppose these are meant to reveal whether or not you are ALREADY crazy since there is a fairly good chance you might…Continue reading He Makes Me Lie Down

Worst Potty Training Mom Ever

December 4, 2013December 4, 2013 Katrina RyderFull of Fruit

(So depressing that I started this post four months ago and yet it’s still relevent to my life.) I am shamelessly ripping off Jen Hatmaker’s worst mom series because imitation is the sincerest form of flattery and I love her. Plus, while she may be worst at many things, all her kids are (apparently) potty…Continue reading Worst Potty Training Mom Ever

Pollyanna & The New Comment Policy

November 23, 2013 Katrina RyderFull of Fruit

Have you ever seen Pollyanna? It’s a Disney movie in which a little girl transforms her fellow townsfolk from gloomy, drab, and hopeless solely by the force of her chipper, happy disposition and her kind words. During my brooding, melancholic teen years, my mother would often use Pollyanna as her touchstone of comparison, saying things…Continue reading Pollyanna & The New Comment Policy

Don’t Homeschool? Take Home to School

November 20, 2013November 21, 2013 Katrina RyderFull of Fruit

I don’t homeschool.  I don’t really want to. My husband is a public school music teacher, and my kids attend the school he teaches at. It is practically spitting distance away, and it’s a great school.  They have great teachers. I have no ability with early elementary subjects, and buying homeschool material could literally break…Continue reading Don’t Homeschool? Take Home to School

You Go Girl! Fall 2013 Study

September 10, 2013September 12, 2013 Katrina RyderFull of Fruit

I’m excited to announce that I’m facilitating a 7 week women’s group study this fall right here in Waxhaw.  (If you aren’t in Waxhaw, I have a request at the end for you. Will you scroll down?) The name I’ve chosen for my groups is You Go Girl! Even though it is a little cheesy,…Continue reading You Go Girl! Fall 2013 Study

It’s Gonna Be A Warm Night

June 17, 2013June 17, 2013 Katrina RyderFull of Fruit

This is my son, Dylan. He just turned 6 and finished Kindergarten. Be still my Mamma heart. I could just eat those ears right up.   (Don’t even talk to me about the “cake” made from Krispy Kreme donuts. It made all his dreams come true, AND, considering it took me 5 minutes to pile…Continue reading It’s Gonna Be A Warm Night

A Cheetos Confession & Lesson for Spoiled Brats

May 23, 2013May 23, 2013 Katrina RyderFull of Fruit

To carry on in the spirit of my previous post, not caring what people think, I have a story. I have a daughter. She is three and three-quarters years old. She is a diva. Strong-willed. Spoiled. Adorable. Bratty. Darling. A Control Freak. Innocent. Devilish. Angelic. Beastly. You probably know a kid like this.   She…Continue reading A Cheetos Confession & Lesson for Spoiled Brats

Practice on the People Who Don’t Matter

May 16, 2013May 17, 2013 Katrina RyderFull of Fruit

Years ago, my friend Kay said I needed to overcome my paralyzing need to people please.  She said that I should practice on people who don’t matter.  She suggested that I say “No” when I didn’t want to do something, send food back in restaurants when it was gross, and ignore criticism from strangers. But…Continue reading Practice on the People Who Don’t Matter

About me

Hi! I'm Katrina. I'm married to an elementary school music teacher and am mom to three busy teenagers. Although I dream of being a writer, I keep busy substitute teaching, directing Shakespeare plays, teaching homeschool classes and working seasonally at a local u-pick farm. These days my blog is mostly a venue for information about my homeschool classes, but the archives contain my old posts about faith, finances, food, and family. I also have archives of The Poorganic Life food blog and You Go Girl! studies. I love Jesus, my family, libraries, audiobooks, Harry Potter, talking about the Enneagram, gardening, Hamilton, and eating crusty bread.

Where’s the one about . . .?
