The Shut-Up Katrina Project

Okay, right off the bat, if you follow The Poorganic Life for the real food advice, do not despair. Since I’m going on vacation FOR FIVE KID FREE DAYS with my hot husband (WHOOT-WOOT), I’ve decided to rerun some of my very first Eating Poorganically posts from a year ago when we first started this journey, and almost NONE of you were here to tell me how crazy I was.  So, over the next week, real food posts will be coming to an inbox near you. (If you subscribe, which you can do by typing your e-mail address in the box to the right.)
My sister and I try to keep our mouths shut. You can tell it’s awkward for us. We need divine intervention.

But, before we resume our aforementioned food fight, I thought I’d go ahead and give you the results of, what I’m affectionately calling The Shut-Up Katrina Project. 
You may need to read my previous post, but on the other hand, I guess “shut-up project” is pretty self-explanatory.

Here’s my plan for Summer of 7 no waste week where I am going to minimize wasted time and words. I got a lot of good suggestions, but here is what I’m going to do (assuming that God doesn’t come through and give me laryngitis for a week like he did in my dream the other night.)

FIRST, I’m going to WAIT, which stands for “WHY AM I TALKING?” I am going to ask myself this question and hopefully eliminate some of my logorrhoea. This brilliant idea is brought to you courtesy of my friend Lisa.

SECONDLY,  I’m going to memorize the following 7 scriptures, and try to get them to penetrate my heart. I genuinely believe there is actual POWER in God’s word and it does change us. We can’t help but be changed by it. SO, since resolve, and will, and even duct tape and laryngitis do not seem able to tame my tongue, I am hoping God Word, alive and active in me, can.

  1. F verse (Visit the link and watch cute video.) Matthew 12: 34 For out of the overflow of the heart, the mouth speaks.
  2. Psalm 141:3  Set a watch, O LORD, before my mouth; keep the door of my lips.

  3. James 3:9-10With the tongue we praise our Lord and Father, and with it we curse human beings, who have been made in God’s likeness. 10 Out of the same mouth come praise and cursing. My brothers and sisters, this should not be.

  4. Psalm 19:14Maythese words of my mouth and this meditation of my heart be pleasing in your sight, LORD, my Rock and my Redeemer.  (Ooo, maybe this can be M verse? I’ve been looking for one.)

  5. 1 Corinthians 13: 1-3 If I speak in the tongues of men or of angels, but do not have love, I am only a resounding gong or a clanging cymbal. 2 If I have the gift of prophecy and can fathom all mysteries and all knowledge, and if I have a faith that can move mountains, but do not have love, I am nothing. 3 If I give all I possess to the poor and give over my body to hardship that I may boast, but do not have love, I gain nothing.

  6. Ephesians 4:29 Do not let any unwholesometalk come out of your mouths, but only what is helpful for building others up according to their needs, that it may benefit those who listen.

  7. Proverbs 20:19A gossip betrays a confidence;    so avoid anyone who talks too much.

That’s it.  I’m hopeful, but not promising, that I will memorize these in the next week. Want to join me?

After I get back from my vacation (Did I mention that I am breathless with anticipation of these 5.5 days of kidless, kitchenless, cavorting with stud-muffin husband? I am.)   3. I’m back. Funny story. I’m currently visiting my parents in St Louis. There I am helping my mom clean out a drawer and this little piece of paper falls into my lap. I pick it up and it is a cut out from a magazine with Psalms 141:3 on it.

    Set a guard over my mouth, O Lord, keep watch over the door of my lips.

    Funny how I read your posts, then moments later this fell into my lap. I love when God shows us His obvious presence! So awesome!!

    1. SHUT UP!! I love it! 😉 (I couldn’t resist.) That reminds me of the scripture about believing and not doubting. If we believe that God will help us quit talking and then ask him for help, He will even drop the Scriptures RIGHT INTO OUR LAP!
